About Post-Studio

Here at Post-Studio, we are fueled by creativity, ingenuity,  and determination. Our passion is to help our clients create lasting memories during life’s milestone moments through great design.

Post-Studio Projects started in 2014 as a hub for creating all things laser cut. We have honed in on the laser cutting process through the years and developed our own signature processes. We have also served as guides to others in our field by teaching creative laser cutting techniques to others along the way.

We exist out of a passion for fostering creativity. We act as creative problem solvers for our clients and our company fosters creativity in our employees. This takes the shape of creating products and services that support our clients’ need to have something truly unique to them. We thrive on using a collaborative process with our clients to stay true to their creative vision.

Our Story

The story of Post-Studio is in many ways the story of Kim. Back in 2014, straight out of grad school, she had an idea that she just couldn’t shake and decided to go for it.

After pursuing a dual MFA in Studio Art and MA in Art History, Kim found herself working in the admissions department of the art school she attended in San Francisco. She loved working with bright-eyed students who were at the starting point of tapping into their artistic potential. It was incredibly rewarding, but the tiny cubicle and 9-5 grind were wearing on her. She wanted to do something more. She wanted to start something that was creative and meaningful.

She dug into researching business models and kept finding herself inspired by spaces that acted as creative hubs for the exploration of artistic expression. Then, serendipitously while visiting her hometown, Kim met with her high school art teacher. Rhonda had always been a source for inspiration and had provided mentorship to Kim through the years. On this visit, Rhonda literally said “Kim, have you heard of laser cutting? You need to look into it.” She went on to tell Kim about a maker-space that focused on laser cutting in Austin. The next day Kim visited the maker-space Rhonda had mentioned and a month later she found herself sitting in one of their workshops learning the ins and outs of laser cutting. This was the start of her deep dive into the world of digital fabrication.

Soon after that, sight-unseen Kim put the deposit down on a commercial rental space in Houston, leased a laser cutter, and went to town feverishly developing her business model. She would create a space for emerging artists, designers, & makers that served as a testing ground for their ideas. She would provide access to laser cutters and a collaborative workspace so creatives could come together to grow and learn. Post-Studio Projects was born.

In the early years, Kim taught laser cutting classes and offered memberships for creatives to develop their ideas using laser cut technology. She became very skilled at using laser cutters and teaching others to use them. As time went on she realized it was hard for her members to put in the hours to become skilled at using the machines themselves. The laser cutting process is full of nuances based on the materials used. There are many variables that are detrimental to the success of a project that are hard to pin down in the allotted time frame of a membership.

Members started to come to Kim to create their items for them. They needed laser cutting services, but didn’t necessarily have the time to learn to become skilled enough to use the machines for their projects. Gradually, Kim shifted the focus of Post-Studio to provide laser cutting services to other creative individuals.

Kim’s initial vision of creating a space for artistic expression has morphed into providing high quality laser cut products and laser cutting services to her clients. She is known as a relentless problem solver, bringing her background in art and design to the projects that Post-Studio creates.

Today, Post-Studio is made up of a team of artists and designers that truly believe in bringing their client’s visions to life. Kim and the team have developed a love for working with clients who are in the midst of celebrating milestone moments in their lives. Post-Studio’s ever-growing line of products is geared toward celebrating: events, new beginnings (babies + kids), and small businesses as these are what truly matters in life.
